Huda Beauty | Do Bond-Building Haircare Products Live Up To The Hype?

December 21, 2022 by Ambrosia Hitchcock 1 Comment

You fuel your body with nutritious foods and apply skincare products that lend to a hydrated, glowing complexion. In fact, there’s a good chance you carefully curate what goes into your body and onto your skin since both are technically investments in your well-being.

But what about your hair? Is your shower and vanity stocked with bottles and tubs of hair care products that help your strands look and feel strong, shiny, and healthy? Ahead, we’re exploring the topic of bond-building haircare products, a new-ish beauty category that’s all about creating healthier hair from the inside out.

This category of hair care products come in a variety of formulations, including shampoos, deep conditioners, and leave-in treatments activated by heat styling. “Bond-building products are building blocks that help strengthen the hair from the inside out, preventing the hair from becoming more damaged,” explains Gina Rivera, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Phenix Salon Suites.

Sunday Edit | The 9 Worst Things You Can Do for Your Hair

November 29, 2022 by Ambrosia Hitchcock Leave a Comment

Since the dawn of time, hair has been considered a staple of good health, beauty, and overall wellness, so it’s no surprise if you’re feeling a little lackluster when you’re having a bad hair day, week, month, or year. Hair drapes our faces and is something that we inevitably have to deal with in some way, shape, or form every day. It can also be something that we take great pride in, not to mention put a lot of effort towards, so it’s no surprise if you’re spending hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars each year on hair care and maintenance.

Even though hair is technically dead skin cells (yep!), it still can and should be taken care of and maintained. Think of the scalp as an extension of the face — it’s where the living part of the hair is. For this reason, scalp care is paramount, and recommends daily scalp cleansing (shampooing) to remove dirt, sebum, and mineral buildup — something very few of us actually do. Additionally, ultraviolet (UV), or sun, protection of the scalp, especially for those with thinning hair (both men and women) is important.

Unfortunately, many of the day-to-day habits that are incorporated into our lifestyle can sabotage the health of our hair. This can not only make it more challenging to actually achieve the results that we’re looking for, but also cause serious damage to your hair along the way. Read on for some of the worst things that people do to their hair — and what is recommended instead.

Glam | Can Your Shampoo And Conditioner Expire?

October 7, 2022 by Ambrosia Hitchcock Leave a Comment

We’re not new to the idea of expiration dates. From cartons of milk to jars of salsa, we’re accustomed to seeing these cautionary timelines printed on products. But while expiration dates get a lot of attention in our kitchen, many of us overlook them in regard to our cosmetics and toiletries. Unfortunately, beauty products aren’t immune to the march of time. From mascara to nail polish, pretty much anything that goes on your body will have a limited lifespan. That’s why it’s important to recognize the signs of expired foundation, eyeliner, and other cosmetic products.

But what about your hair care favorites? Can shampoo and conditioner expire? Read on for the details!

Consumer Reports | How to Handle Hair Loss

October 2, 2022 by Ambrosia Hitchcock Leave a Comment

Feel like your hair is just less . . . there? Male and female pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia) is incredibly common. For instance, by age 50, half of white men see visible signs, as do about the same proportion of women over age 70. Genetics and hormones may affect hair health. In women, hair loss is also more common after menopause, when estrogen levels drop, she says. Your overall health and lifestyle are part of the equation, too.
