Gina’s Platform – Tip of the Week

December 7, 2021 by Noelle Sim Leave a Comment

The holidays are such an important time of year for businesses, especially in the busy beauty industry because we have extra opportunities to increase revenue.  Here’s a few of my tips for keeping your business thriving financially and professionally during this festive season:

  • Schedule Text Alerts & Appointment Reminders Early
  • Have small give away gifts on hand for your clients to wish them a Happy Holiday. (Hint: I use to like sample products, but candy canes work great as well…it’s all about the thought!)
  • Create a holiday gift package of a few items that you prepackage and have available to sell.
  • Team up with other professionals and offer special packages that pair a variety of services.
  • Take photos of special holiday looks that you create and post them on your social media account to drive sales.
  • Make sure to schedule some time for fun!

September 8, 2021 by Noelle Sim Leave a Comment

There are so many hair products on the market nowadays that it’s often hard to know what to select.  Here’s some tips on how to identify if a product is wrong for your hair type:

  • Your scalp becomes overly-dry and perhaps even itchy or flakey
  • Your hair color appears dull and may fade
  • Your hair is more oily than normal
  • Your curls are frizzy and not well defined
  • You hair feels heavy and flat

TIP OF THE WEEK – How to help your child feel comfortable with getting a haircut

June 22, 2021 by Noelle Sim Leave a Comment

Most of us have encountered the small child that is afraid of having their haircut and possibly even visiting the salon. Here’s some of my tips for handling your littlest clients.

  • When the child arrives introduce yourself and take them on a mini tour where you explain what takes place in each part of the salon. (Note: start with the salon chair, visit the washbowl, show the scissors and the hair dryer)
  • Make sure to ask if they have questions and strive to answer all of them.
  • Keep an extra child’s shirt on hand in case the child refuses to wear the cape. (Hint: You can always describe the cape as a Superhero cape to get them more on board).
  • Explain to the child that they’re getting their hair “styled” or trimmed”. It’s best to avoid using the word “cut” as this can sound scary.
  • Keep a small treasure box on hand and allow the child to draw a gift at the end of the appointment if they behave and are brave.

    Tutorial: Gina’s Everyday Makeup Routine

April 27, 2020 by Mia Torti Leave a Comment

Gina begins her makeup routine after she has cleansed her face fully and applied her daily moisturizer.

For a step by step guide and products used see below:

    STEP 1: FOUNDATION

Gina uses her fingers to apply her go-to liquid foundation. This method is used to achieve a very natural finish. The fingers warm the product and really allow it to get into every crevice.

Laura Mercier Liquid Foundation in Cashew Beige

    STEP 2: POWDER

Secondly, she goes in and dusts her face with powder. She makes sure to utilize just the perfect amount of product to refrain from looking chalky. This step helps to set the makeup and help it to last a bit longer. It also makes the skin have a matte finish.

MAC Mineralize Powder in Medium Dark

    STEP 3: BLUSH

Gina applies her favorite blush to her cheek bones in an upward motion. As funny as it may look, it does help to make a kissy face to really enunciate your cheek bones and apply that way.

    MAC Blush in Sweet Enough

    STEP 4: BROWS

Using a powdered brow palette, she fills in her brows with a fine slanted brush. This helps the brows to appear fuller and thicker. Gina goes along the shape of her brow being careful to gradually deepen the color.

    Valerie Beverly Hills Palette

    STEP 5: EYESHADOW

Fourth, Gina starts her eye process. She applies a light beige color to the lid. She brings the color right under her brow as well. This works as a slight highlighter to define the brow. She then mixes a gray and dark brown and applies it to the crease and brings the product out to a wing.

    ELF Eyeshadow Palette

    STEP 6: LIQUID EYELINER

Gina is known for her signature cat eye. This is where she makes the magic happen. She uses a liquid liner and follows the shape of her eye and extends it out. Her cat eye is thick and bold. This changes the shape of her eyes and makes them appear bigger with a more almond shape. Gina also brings the liner to her lower lash line.

    L’Oreal Liquid Eyeliner in Black

    STEP 7: PENCIL EYELINER

Gina uses a pencil eyeliner to darken her waterline. After, she goes over the liquid a bit to deepen her smokey eye look.

    MAC Technakohl Liner in Graphblack

    STEP 8: MASCARA

Next, Gina applies mascara to her top lashes. She goes from the inner corner to the outer corner. She doesn’t use an eyelash curler before, but if you want your lashes to really curl up, use a curler prior to applying mascara.

Kevyn Aucoin Volume Mascara in Black
    L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Black

    STEP 9: LIPS

Gina loves her lipsticks! So naturally, she takes three steps. She first lines her lips with a pencil. Then, she fills in a long lasting color to her lips. Lastly, she adds a gloss to finish off her ruby wine pout.

Revlon Colorstay Lip Liner in Wine
Revlon Colorstay Lip Coloring Relentless Raisin
    MAC Lipglass in Nymphette

    STEP 10: SET YOUR MAKEUP

Gina always sprays her iconic mohawk before she finishes getting ready.
