Gina Rivera’s Tip of the Week: How to Style Using a Claw Clip

July 31, 2022 by Ambrosia Hitchcock Leave a Comment

Accessories are great for summer and one of my favorites is the Claw Clip. Here’s my recommendation for using a Claw Clip when getting ready for your next outing:

  • Try different styles with the Claw Clip by pulling the hair back in sections. A favorite of mine is half up and half down.

  • Consider creating a French twist and securing with a Claw Clip. Allow the hair at the top of the clip to cascade over the clip creating a fun and messy look.

  • Pony tails can be a great option for the claw clip. Just pull the hair together at the nape of the neck and twist twice. Then, cover the twist and allow the ponytail to flow out of the top of the claw clip

  • Never pull the hair overly tight when using a Claw Clip because the stress placed on the hair may result in breakage.

  • Always use a good wet line to ensure the hair is hydrated when using accessories.

Gina Rivera’s Tip of the Week: How to Achieve Curls While You Sleep

July 17, 2022 by Ambrosia Hitchcock Leave a Comment

Want to achieve curls while you sleep? Here’s my recommendation for achieving a beautiful curly head of locks while sleeping:

– Create a pin curl by dampening the hair, rolling it up and pinning it down with bobby pins. Try curl cream for thicker hair that needs added hold. Sleep on it.

– For a beach wave, braid the hair loosely while damp or towel dry. Add some sea salt spray for extra curl. Wake up looking amazing.

– For larger curls, place a few buns on your head, secure with bobby pins. Go for more smaller buns for tighter curls

– Try Velcro rollers with towel dry or damp hair. Use a wide tooth comb in the morning to finish the look.

– Flexi rods are a great for natural hair. These can be utilized much like rollers and also optimized with a good curl cream.

– Always prep the hair by using a good wetline on a regular basis to ensure hair health. (Pure BioGen Complex is my favorite!)

– Never pin down and pull the hair too tight, as it can create stress and breakage.

Gina Rivera’s Tip of the Week: Selecting the Right Brunette Shade

June 26, 2022 by Ambrosia Hitchcock Leave a Comment

This year, regardless of the warmer season, we’re seeing all types of brunette shades heavily trending. No longer is this a shade for cool weather. If you’re considering brunette, here’s my tip for selecting the right shades:

  • Always make sure to work with your salon professional who can assist with identifying the right shade for your skin tone.
  • Taken into consideration both skin tone and eye color which will help to determine if you should go with warm or cool tones.
  • For a more natural look, go no more than two shades away from your natural color.
  • Consider how much dimension you would like (Hint: More dimension may require the use of multiple shades applied using different techniques).
  • Discuss with your Salon Professional how much maintenance various shades will require and determine what works for your lifestyle.
  • Have a wonderful time looking amazing!

Gina Rivera’s Tip of the Week: How to Achieve a Gorgeous Balayage

May 29, 2022 by Ambrosia Hitchcock Leave a Comment

Wondering how those gorgeous balayages are achieved? Here’s my Tip of the Week:

– Begin with a clarifying treatment on your hair to ensure all the build up is removed before applying colour. I suggest doing this within 24 hours prior to your colour application. This will help the colour to take more easily.

– Always start with a professional colour line that has specialized dye pigments, gentle alkalizers and protective oxidizers that work together ensuring the colour is vibrant and the hair is healthy. HINT: My favorite line is COLOURS by Gina.

– Make sure to have a professional stylist provide this service. Colour application requires knowledge of the science and processing times as well as utilization of the proper technique to achieve a desired look.

– Depending on how dark your hair is, it may need to be pre-lightened. Discuss with your stylist if the process will require more than one appointment.

– Make sure to consult with your hairstylist regarding the right shade for your skin tone.

– To maintain our new look, always use a good professional wetline that is sulfate free and packed with biotin, collagen, and B Vitamins. I recommend Pure BioGen Complex.

Gina’s Tip of the Week – How to Combat Frizzy Hair

April 29, 2022 by Noelle Sim Leave a Comment

Frizzy hair can be one of the most challenging hair situations that we deal with. Here’s my Tip of the Week for combating the frizzies:

  • Start with a terrific professional wetline. Hint: This is always where your hair care should start.
  • Select a professional wetline based on its ingredients and its ability to provide proper nutrients, soften, and smooth the hair.
  • Always go with a shampoo that is sulfate free.
  • Make sure to select a wetline that is packed with items such as biotin, collagen and vitamins. I recommend Pure BioGen Complex by Gina.
  • Always select hot tools that utilize infrared technology because they lock the moisture into the hair.

5 Haircuts For Round Face Shapes, According to Celebrity Hairstylists

April 21, 2022 by Noelle Sim Leave a Comment

Credit to: Hailey Bouche for theeverygirl.com

Back in the day, my only source for haircut inspiration was found in coffee table catalogs at a local salon. If I wasn’t going for a standard trim, I’d have to frantically flip through each page to choose what I was going to do next before it was my turn to sit in the salon chair.

Now, thanks to the internet and social media, we have access to experts who can help us choose the best haircuts for our face shape weeks before our appointment so we can make a decision, change our minds, and change them again, all before it’s too late. If only this was the case sooner, I would have been saved from more than just a few not-so-cute haircuts.

I am happy to say that we no longer have to learn the hard way. All it takes is reaching out to some stylists to ask about the best haircuts. In this case, we inquired for all of our beautiful readers with round faces to find out what the best round-face haircuts are.

1. Long Layers

Gina Rivera, a celebrity hairstylist and the founder of Phenix Salon Suites, recommended long layers for round face shapes. “These styles tend to create a balance that makes the face appear to be slightly longer rather than wider,” she said.

If you don’t opt for layers and choose a one-length haircut, the roundness of your face will likely be overemphasized, according to celebrity hairstylist Annagjid “Kee” Taylor.

2. Mid-Length Cut with Chin-Length Layers

Similar to shag cuts, “chin-length layers help elongate and frame a round face,” said Andrew Fitzsimons, a celebrity hairstylist who has styled some of our favorites (Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, J.Lo, and Megan Fox). Adding a smaller curl pattern to this style if your hair isn’t curly already can be one of the best round-face haircuts—especially if you are a fan of styles with a lot of volume.

As far as parting your locks goes, stylists agree: A deep side part or a middle part will give your face the illusion of length.

3. Pixie Cut

If you prefer a shorter style that requires minimal styling, Kee said that you can never go wrong with a pixie cut. This is arguably one of the most popular round-face haircuts, so if you are looking for inspiration, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Williams are two celebrities who do the pixie cut right.

If you have curly hair and are worried about how your hair will look with a pixie cut, Kee recommended a layered bob. Once your hair drys and the pattern of your hair is formed, you will be left with tons of volume.

4. Shag Cuts

According to Rivera, a long shag cut is another great style for those with round faces. “The shag layers can help frame the face, creating a focus on the center vertical line of the face rather than the width of the face.”

Fitzsimons agreed and encouraged adding bangs to haircuts with a shag effect to further accentuate your face shape.

5. Bangs

Fear not: A side-swept bang or a bold bang will add an edge to your look and compliment your face shape, so don’t be afraid of them! Fitzsimons recommended them both but suggested avoiding soft, wispy bangs, as they can result in further accentuating the softness of your features.
